Webcam-based motion capture system

The Laboratory is provided with a webcam-based motion capture system.Unlike the expensive optical systems, webcam-based systems are cheaper, more flexible and easy to use.

Webcam-based systems don't require the actor wearing a suit with reflective markers, but only high-contrast color clothes. Obviously webcam-based system are less precise than the optical ones, but the required precision level depends on the type of activity.

VK group uses the MOCAP system to carry out the tracking of actors during activities that require validation, such as human interaction with a new product or workflow configuration. Afterward, the tracked data are used to analyze posture and movements using virtual human simulation softwares, like LifeModeler or Jack.

Some examples of application are: virtual ergonomic of commercial refrigerator to evaluate operator postures during loading operation and validation of lower limb prosthesis using virtual humans.
